7641 Römische Meilen
So weit sind die Philippinen von Deutschland entfernt. Hier, etwas über dem Äquator, haben wir keinen Schnee, sondern über das ganze Jahr 30 °C. Es ist ein Paradies, wenn man Sonne, Strände, Berge, Vulkane, Wasserfälle, Tauchen, Natur und Abenteuer liebt. Nicht nur das Land, auch die Leute sind anders. Sie lächeln immer und sind sehr gastfreundlich und zuvorkommend, obwohl viele sehr arm sind und keine Hoffnung für die Zukunft haben.

Frag bitte nicht, wer gezählt hat und ob es bei Hoch- oder Niedrigwasser gezählt wurde. Viele Menschen leben von der Landwirtschaft und vom Fischfang. Eine Familie kommt damit gerade so über die Runden. Junge Menschen versuchen zu studieren, um einen besseren Job zu bekommen. Armut und Perspektivlosigkeit sind der Grund, warum Millionen Philippinos im Ausland arbeiten und Geld für die Familien nach Hause schicken.

That is how far away the Philippines is from Germany. We don’t have snow, but we experience year-round temperatures of 30 degrees. This is a paradise for those who love the sun, beaches, mountains, volcanoes, waterfalls, diving, adventure, and nature. Not only is the country different, but the people are also very different. They always smile and try to accommodate you, even though many of them are very poor and have no hope for the future.

The Philippines is an archipelago comprising numerous islands. Please do not ask who counted them, or if it was high tide or low tide. Many people here live off fishing and farming. That is usually just enough to feed the family, and most young people strive to attend college to secure a better-paid job. Poverty and lack of perspective are the reasons millions of Filipinos work abroad and send money home for their families.
